Replacing carpet with timber flooring is a popular option for many owners renovating their units due to its low maintenance and aesthetic appeal. However, if you are looking at doing so, we recommend you do some homework to ensure your renovations don’t cause unnecessary disruption to your unit neighbors (particularly the ones below).
The adjudicators can order unit owners to replace flooring with carpet or redo the insulation if it can be proved that there is unreasonable noise transference from a unit that has hard floor installed, often at great expense.
While timber flooring is not off-limits, its recommended to consult with the body corporate, engage in discussions with the committee about your proposed renovations, and take appropriate measures to minimize sound transmission. By taking these proactive steps, you can strike a balance between enhancing your unit and maintaining harmonious relationships with the body corporate committee and those around your unit.
