Colder weather is upon us, and with that comes an inevitable spike in power bills. Choosing a heat source for your unit that provides efficient heating without breaking the bank can be a challenge, but what should you opt for and why?
Electric heaters:
Electric heaters, which typically take up less space than a heat pump, are a good option in a smaller household; they are easy to heat a property which is why it is a popular choice for homes throughout the country. Although electric heaters are inexpensive to buy upfront, they can be more expensive to run. Instead, opt for one with a higher wattage and a thermostat – and remember that a fan heater should never be left running unattended as it can become a fire hazard.
Heat pumps:
Installing a heat pump is a great cheaper solution for providing a reliable, efficient solution. However, despite being an efficient system, the capital cost of the heat pump system is costlier than the electric heating system. The good news is that heat pumps generally have low running costs, resulting in long-term savings as opposed to an electric heater. Before committing to installing a heat pump, again check with the Body Corporate committee if there will be any issues with attaching units to the building exterior.
